Should i buy from blue nile diamonds
Quick, simple and blissfully uneventful, it was now time for strong drink. I get it that to take photos of hundreds of thousands of diamonds takes time and clearly the huge sales revenue they enjoy anyway has deemed this unnecessary. As Blue Nile simply uploads the data pertaining to diamonds from their vendors they are merely presenting them as their own.
This is probably the main reason for the serious lack of images, As these diamonds are located across the globe it seems unlikely that Blue Nile never actually see the stones, and to get around this they have introduced the blind buying.
I am used to dealing with top companies who offer outstanding shopping experiences right across the board. A trip to the education section is recommended before anything else as to a rookie having to choose between sl1 and vs2 clarity will mean nothing. Some of the information is great, some completely unnecessary and some written as if everyone is a diamond expert. A good section which could have been great.
You cannot deny the choice of settings is outstanding, shame you cannot see the stones that will go into them. You have the options of all the usual metals but there is nothing that stands out.
There were no unusual stones with the wow factor, and a surprisingly limited selection of the current must have metal; rose gold.
It does the job but there is nothing special about the packaging. A ring box needs to purvey the quality of the ring it contains, hence the fact so many wily proposers in the past have forked out for an expensive box to house a much cheaper ring. A Blue Nile box does not scream style and elegance, and needs an upgrade to match the cost of its contents.
Blue Nile offer a 30 day return policy but this too is a long winded process. Rather than bore you with any more details you can read the criteria for yourself here. I never imagined it would be Blue Nile though. The other features on the site are less redeeming. More recent customer feedback on Blue Nile has been poor as well, this comment was taken from a recent customer who contacted my site. I have purchased from them a lot in the past. I gave them a try.. Customer service was ok, but I was there to buy a diamond..
Proportions wise, the diamond looks fine but that says nothing about the appearance or beauty of the diamond. With cushion cut diamonds, you definitely want to get tangible information like videos and photographs to help you with the assessment. Thank you for your prompt response Paul.
If I can get pictures or videos of the diamond, what should I look for? Also, does the cloudiness in a diamond only depends on Color, Clarity and Fluorescence? Would we know base on the GIA report? Shipping confirmation stated the ring would arrive today, but I was a bit skeptical.
What makes if more incredible is that shipping was free! This is an unreal conpany. The ring looks fantastic, and it was beautifully packed. I would recommend Blue Nile to anybody! I would say yours would be more of a special case and really depends on the location you are at. If there is stock available and you happen to reside near their distribution center, getting it in less than 12 hours may be possible.
Typically, it takes a little longer. Anyway, congrats! And thanks for sharing! The diamond you picked is absolutely abysmal. It has a unreliable grading report, terribly cut and NOT eyeclean. Dump that stone. You are doing your research completely wrong. From your selection, you are obviously trying to cheapen out on quality and that never ends well. Get a CZ diamond or costume jewelry instead. If you asked me to compare Bluenile vs James Allen, I would say both vendors are reliable and each have their strengths.
They are good for different diamond shapes and setting designs. Paul — I have been studying your site and visiting others you recommend: Whiteflash, James Allen, etc. If I need to return it I will. I would say that the diamond is decently well cut and has good light return.
I was recommending Blue Nile to a friend today because we had such a great experience. We got our diamond about 11 years ago when we got engaged. My husband knew more about diamonds. I was able to read about what each of the Cs meant and make a good decision. I think we spent a little over on a nice quality one carat diamond.
We did have it set outside the website. And when it was appraised, it appraise for more than twice the cost of the diamond. I love buying it on the website and I love seeing the map of the diamond and everything about the diamond. Thanks for sharing your experience. Amazing website!! The good thing is that Blue Nile offers video listings that allow you to bypass all these as the videos are sufficient to determine eyecleanliness and brilliance if you know how to analyze them.
Very bad experience!! I just had to cancel my order and wanted to give some feedback and explain why in case you find it helpful. I ordered a ring in Nov. I get an email a week later letting me know that my order cannot be fulfilled and my new ship date would be the end of November.
So I replanned everything around that time-frame but today I got an email that said my new ship date would be Dec 15th without any other information or a heads up. In addition, I was told I would be charged more money to select an option that ships sooner!! So in the end I had to cancel my order and get a refund. Thanks for leaving your feedback. They should have allowed you to expedite shipping at no extra cost as that is a better business sense for them.
That said, Blue Nile has clearly dropped the ball and I think this could have been managed better on their side. If you need help on other matters or reselecting a diamond, let me know again.
I will go out of my way to help you out on this. Click here to cancel reply. The Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender. Diamond Prices — Are You Overpaying? White Flash. What Our Readers Say….

Thanks Again Paul!!! Hi Paul, My apologies for the delay in responding to your offer to assist me but it was on purpose. Thanks again Paul. Theodore -. Hey Paul, First off, wanted to thank you for you website and forum i. Those change all the time so check their website for the latest offers. If you buy entirely online, you never deal with a person and thus never any heavy-handed sales tactics. Blue Nile only sources diamonds from conflict-free areas and follows the Kimberley Process, which is a certification process that ensures certified diamonds did not come from conflict zones around the country.
You can return or exchange anything you buy in the first 30 days. Shipping is free, returns are shipped free, and everything is insured to the value of your purchase. Blue Nile, like many other large jewelry websites, offers complimentary cleaning and inspection.
You pay for shipping to Blue Nile and they pay for shipping it back. They will still pay for the shipping back to you. Blue Nile has a lifetime manufacturer warranty that they will repair or replace if they determine it was a manufacturing defect. If you find a comparable diamond on another site that is lower than what Blue Nile would charge, you can request a price match. The system is pretty simple, you just call up their and walk through the diamond with a consultant.
This can make it easier to take the leap of faith that your diamond will be eye clean once you see the inclusions super zoomed in, its hard to convince yourself that it will look fine in real life.
Take a look at this stunning 1. After putting in all of my cut filters in, I was able to start looking for the cheapest eye-clean diamond. This was the 14th diamond on the list. So while those other 13 were cheaper and had the same clarity grade, they were not eye-clean like this one for example. We have recently developed Ringo, a patented artificial intelligence model, that can examine videos of diamonds and determine if they are eye-clean.
In our previous review, we noted that they seem to be outsourcing a lot of their jewelry manufacturing to a company in Kentucky. We were not a fan of this as it means they lose control over the process. Well I can say that Blue Nile rediscovered their passion for quality control. We first met with the BN team at their corporate headquarters in Seattle. Instead of being argumentative on the topic which would be understandable, given that our review was less than thrilling , they addressed the issues head on.
They explained the steps they took to improve the situation. This culminated in a fantastic trip to their fulfillment center. There we were introduced to Hide, who oversees operations there. He showed us around. Ira and I have many years experience in the business and have met with countless jewelry companies at all levels of the industry from mining down to small mom and pop stores.
Since we started recommending them recently, the feedback from our readers has been overwhelmingly positive about the quality of diamond rings from Blue Nile. In our most recent secret shopping we do them regularly to keep our information current , we decided to do a test on the street. We compared two rings from Blue Nile to a classic 0. The consensus was that the Blue Nile rings were every bit as beautiful and high quality as the Tiffany ring.
But does the customer experience actually match what they showed us? In fact, we shopped them twice; once internationally to test their service overseas as well as their stud earrings for our earring review. The next time we secret shopped them in the United States testing them on the bread and butter of their business: An engagement ring.
We found Blue Nile to be the best option, by far, if you are shopping from Europe. They have a base in Ireland which allows for seamless processing and shipping. And you can read how much we loved their earrings in our diamond stud review. Now on to the main event. For this shopping I settled on a setting that many of our readers seem to gravitate toward.
I settled on this beautiful 0. As you can see from the specs, the cut on this diamond is absolutely brilliant. The selection to choose from is breathtaking. Blue Nile has been the industry leader for quite some time and have used that position of strength to cultivate strong partnerships both in diamond and setting supplies. They have a vast inventory of diamonds to choose from and now, with the addition of videos, the tools to help you narrow down your selection.
I reached out to Blue Nile via live chat and started a conversation with Gen. Gen was incredibly helpful. Even with a somewhat more complicated order I live overseas and needed her hold the ring until right before I flew to the US then ship it to a FedEx location for me to pick it up , Gen was quick to answer my questions with spot on responses. When I arrived in NYC, my first stop was to pick up the package.
While talking about their customer service, I feel a need to give a shout out to our international readers. Blue Nile is, by far, the best company to work with if you are ordering overseas even if you are just purchasing from overseas and picking it up in the US. Not only does their site list the net price for you in your local currency, but the customer service was seamless.
They even arranged return shipping from the Czech Republic back to their European base in Ireland. From a European perspective, Blue Nile perfectly meshed the experience of buying locally with the far more competitive pricing you see in the US. As we mentioned earlier, our secret shopping at the end of made us change our tune.
We just secret shopped them again and there were a few nice little surprises. Most notable was their new packaging.
