How old is orla johannes
A Budding Career Upon graduation and a year after working in advertising for The Sun in London, she relocated to Montreal and worked at Future Electronics in product marketing. Johannes reflects on that period of her life and distinctly remembers having a moment of clarity. After cold calling Q92 presently known as The Beat He had listened to her voicemail several times, and told Johannes there was something special about her voice.
Shortly after, she was invited to compile a demo with Marc Aflalo, the program director of The Team at the time. That demo was the next stepping stone in her career and she sent it to all the big radio stations. Then she heard about a possible lead at News. A Blossoming Career Now that she was on the air, her charisma and charming British accent became very recognizable to the public.
She became the fashion reporter and also ended up co-hosting the show with Mose Persico. Then she went on to host Tabletalk , a food and drink chat show, for three years on News. She also has a passion for acting and has taken on some notable television and movie roles. In addition to acting, Johannes loves doing voice-over and has her very own in-house recording studio.
This resulted in two wonderful children, George and Chloe. With two children, a husband, and two Labrador dogs, her heart and her hands were full. Johannes enjoys being a wife and mother, but after a three-year break from her career, she began to feel the itch to return to work. However, like most working moms, she found it difficult to juggle her career with an month-old baby at home and a three-year-old in daycare.
She knew her priorities and schedule needed to be reassessed, so she decided to pull back her hours on air. Together, they hosted a show called Real Parents , which took a raw and honest look at parenting. Today, that show has transitioned to a lifestyle show called Now Trending , which airs Sundays at 2 p.
I love tucking my children into bed each night and reading to them. She believes you need to give life to your dreams, envision them and be willing to do the work. In her case, she had to knock on a lot of doors, make dozens of cold calls, attend many events and network and take some chances.
Another passion of hers is helping others. Since our conversation, Orla has been promoted to the plum morning shift, which I had the pleasure of having it announced to me by way of a happy text message. She hails from Kent, England which is just outside of London and a graduate of Bournemouth University on the south coast with a degree in hospitality management.
Bournemouth is no slouch in British educational circles either. For Orla, even though she studied hospitality management, radio and TV were always her goals really early on. At a very early age in England, Orla was involved in the performing arts going to theatre school at the age of 7, danced from the age of 3 and always in dancing shows doing ballet, tap, and jazz, and doing lots of drama at school, winning sometimes and also confessed to me while on a sick day from school, she would call in the radio stations for something, so the fascination of radio was there.
Orla came to Canada during the ice storm but not before some travel and adventure in the USA. The ad stated that you needed sales experience and a business degree and she said to herself that this was for her and had her interview in London and by the time she got home that same night, she got a call saying she got the job. A new weekend show on CTV was about to start in The show was the light entertainment magazine show called Entertainment Spotlight seen on CTV for 5 years at on Sunday evenings.
Orla co-hosted with Mose Persico and together they displayed an easy chemistry which was a joy to watch as we watched her give us the scoop on the local and international fashion scene and we travelled the world with both Orla and Mose which made for a neat travel guide.
For Mose Persico, it was a great time for him as well. It was flattering when people referred to us as the Regis and Kelly of Montreal.
Sadly, our show fell victim to budget cuts. The rest is history. Orla had to leave the Standard Radio traffic gig as it was taking its toll on her and sometimes not be able to stay awake juggling between the radio and TV jobs. Following her leaving CTV, Orla was offered a food and drink chat show at which went for 3 years, which was successful and it was fun hearing Orla describing someone cooking on the radio.
After the Table Talk show, Orla did a live Saturday night music show on Q92 and recently and happily came back to the Astral stations doing afternoon traffic and is now on the morning show of all 3 stations from Monday to Friday.
