Battleship why aliens didnt attack
That was an idea we explored early on, but it wasn't really as conducive to the big action kind of stuff. It was more of a horror movie. So at the end of the day, we thought that's a fun idea, but it's not going to be for this picture. But ultimately, they wanted a movie that allowed for lots of ship-on-ship combat action, and a certain amount of homage to the sort of war movies that used to be made in the s and s, which you don't see any more.
The notion of putting aliens into Battleship was director Peter Berg's idea. They worked much more closely with the director than they usually do with movie assignments, and he threw out the concept of an alien-invasion movie right when the brothers joined the film as writers.
And the reason why this movie needed aliens? That's simple. Explains Jon:. In reality, there's very few people in the world who would be a fair match for the U. Navy at this point in a sea battle.
So I think part of it wa just the idea of making a big summer movie, and part of it is just [asking], "Who could these guys credibly fight? Of course, you could have the Navy fight the Chinese, or Somalian pirates, or terrorists at sea, but then it becomes something more like Black Hawk Down on the water, which was never the goal.
In order to create a fun action movie with believable stakes, you need a threat that is huge "but not absolutely dominating," and that's where these aliens come in. The brothers actually got to see the Navy up close, going on board some of their ships and interviewing lots of sailors.
When aliens invade, you need to turn off your brain a bit. In real life, if aliens were advanced enough to travel all the way to Earth, they would kick our ass. It did have generic premise, but i Though the aliens were interesting and I like watching the crew work together to stop them, it was kinda like a Star Trek episode in that regard. As i watched this movie, I thought something similar. I thought that the machine aspect to there vision was most interesting.
It was almost like they we incapable of making decisions on there own. Not a bad idea. I would be interested in a sequel. From watching the movie more then 2 times I have noticed that the invaders have weaponry looks like it could be used for deep space mining. This could be relatable to the idea of deep space industries of mining for resourse on comet and asteroids. The longest Obama could have been in office, as it cleary shows him on a news broadcast after the arrival of the aliens.
I like too think that maybe this aliens had been mining comets and such. Thus, when we sent out the signal they had to have intercepted the signal some were inbetween our solorsystem and theirs. More over, knowing we had a way to communicate across intergalactic solar systems they believed they could come here and send a destress signal back home using our deep space satellite. Then the movie goes on from there with us war loving humans shooting the first shot.
Nice summation. Which is kind of sad for the would-be audience. I think soemthing along the same lines, that somebody actually put a lot of thought into what was really intended as just a brainless blockbuster. Certainly, compared to Transformers, Battleship has a lot of stuff going on under the hood. Then again, I suspect you and I are in the minority in felling this way. I thought it was good although i could not stop laughing when the anchor turns the battleship around for the killer broadside lol,.
These films are nonsense. The aliens with vastly superior technology. The technological ability millenia in the making to travel through galaxies.
The intelligence needed etc etc.. Suddenly these technically advanced species turn into morons and are quickly defeated before the end credits.
To add: I can understand why the american audience likes it. They can fantasize about flag waving nationalism and all that. But for a sci fi film. Clever films are few and few between, , primer are the exception. When the grabbed the suit case. Could have easily been a 9 or When they blew their horns naval , the aliens did the same. But becusdd of different materials and bodies. The noise hurt our ERS and broke windows. Note it took shots, to even make a scratch on the aliens glass windows.
Not sure I picked up on the different suits thing, so good spot. I thnink the film was far from perfect, but I still really liked it — a lot more than most people seem to have. I liked it because. I fantasize about the unknown. Typo in last post, I meant hurt our ears and shattered glass. My apologies. But there's one question about that perennial plotline that bugs the SETI Institute's senior astronomer, Seth Shostak: Now that we're learning that planetary real estate is so abundant in the Milky Way , why would the aliens bother attacking?
The real-life search for worlds beyond our solar system is eroding the motivation for a space alien menace, Shostak says. NASA's Kepler planet-hunting mission suggests that there could be billions upon billions of alien Earths and super-Earths out there. Just our culture, really. That's the only thing that they won't have at home, where the shipping charges are less.
Shostak complained that the standard motivations have become terribly outdated: "They come here for the water, or they come because something is wrong with their reproduction. People love that sex angle. But I'm not going to go to the insects in the backyard because things have gone wrong with our reproduction — and those guys, at least, have DNA.
Most of this doesn't make any sense whatsoever. The aliens could be in it for the cultural exchange. But if it doesn't have liquid oceans, they probably don't have good vehicles for waging war from the oceans against the Navy. There's still a lot of argument within the astronomical community about whether Gliese g even really exists.
But if we assume it does, it's a planet in the habitable zone, and we don't know too many in the habitable zone yet. But, that could change rather quickly now. The Kepler telescope has now been in orbit for three years, which is the minimum time needed to find an Earth analog. Shostak: I think there's a lot of intelligence out there, but that's just my guess.
Question is: Are they peaceable or hostile? You could say that the peaceable ones are just going to stay at home and play with their Nintendos, so if you do meet any of them, they might be hostile. That's certainly the case when you think of explorers here on Earth. Explorers tend to be the aggressive types — why else would they risk scurvy, mutiny and other bad things to go out there?
So, you could say that any aliens that are actually moving and interested in going somewhere are likely to be more aggressive. But who knows? There could be a vast Klingon population who just want to visit as many planets as possible. Some people have said that if you broadcast signals, you might wreak havoc and destruction on our own world.
