Who said split the baby in half

One woman withdrew her claim and asked that the child be given to the opposing party; the second woman sought to enforce the judgement. Originally published in Legal by the Bay on September 4, Do you have a specific case you want to discuss with one of our attorney?

In this context, if a dispute typically already reduced to a money issue is within a reasonable range of reaching a solution but both parties are still fairly well dug into their positions, one or the other might suggest that they split the difference, agreeing at a near exact middle ground, without either party making a concession on the validity of their position, merely to get the dispute resolved to avoid incurring further costs of negotiating or litigating the dispute.

As mentioned, this final move is typically practical only if 1 the dispute is reduced to a money issue, and 2 the parties are already within a reasonable range of reaching a negotiated solution.

However, it is rarely a useful approach to resolving wide differences between disputing parties—this is a final solution approach, and not an opening position approach.

There is, of course, the classic example of Steve Jobs. In short, Apple was founded in by Jobs and Steve Wozniak. Jobs was the visionary, while Wozniak handled the engineering side of things. However, in regard to running a business, neither one of the Steves had any real experience.

And so, in a scenario similar to the one I laid out earlier, Markkula brought in a personal friend who had experience as an executive to serve as the company's first CEO. Not long after, Apple would go from a tech company to one of the most valuable businesses in the world.

But there are also examples of much less famous companies and founders that most of us probably haven't heard of that have gone through similar situations. For each one of them, leaving the company they built with their own hands was probably heartbreaking. This is a BETA experience.
