Where is aquille carr now
In the city of Baltimore, though just a 17 year old sophomore, he has racked up nicknames and accolades faster than any first-step the city has ever seen. The Crime Stopper. He was labeled this because so many people try to see his games, crime seemingly comes to a halt in the city on game nights. This is one of the many things that has already made Aquille Carr a legend in his city. With such accolades and accomplishments coming from a high school player, you would think that by this past spring, everyone would have been a believer in the muscular guard.
However, that was not the case. Coming into the summer, some of the most respected national recruiting company's and analysts had Aquille barely ranked in their national top lists, or not ranked at all. That seemed to change after his coming out party at the Boost Mobile Elite 24 game in August. Playing against and alongside 23 of the best players in America, the dynamo stood out big-time, posting 21 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds in the game.
Since the game, his stock has soared. But amidst great expectations for its season, Patterson was taking a beating at the hands of rival St. Carr fumed. A whistle blew, and Carr, already frayed thanks to a number of no-calls on the other end, stomped back toward the foul stripe from under the basket, leering at the official. A family friend walked onto the floor to escort Carr to the locker room. Carr eventually returned to the bench, but not to the game, his head hung low, a towel draped over his neck, obscuring his face.
A national schedule. The Patterson players sat together in silence, Aquille drooped over in a chair looking at his feet. It was the look of a team acknowledging just how much pressure was on them, and simultaneously realizing the potent, real threat of failure. Before you know it, he slammed it. Maybe it was the 57 points he hung on Forest Park, the 11th-ranked team in the city last year, breaking a Patterson record that stood for 50 years. Carr hit seven threes in that game. Or, maybe it was the time a regional All-Star game was called with a minute and a half left after a spectacular play by Carr.
Burrell could have used Aquille Carr. After a freshman year that re-established dormant Patterson as a player in city hoops, Carr led the school to a City Championship, and then the state title game against North Point, where they lost 76— As the starting point guard for U. He weighs pounds. He likes to be the underdog. In fact, Carr has already won over many of the same players he looks up to—some dote on the pride of Baltimore.
But if his stock slips, Carr can head back to the Developmental League, light it up for a season or two and put himself back into position for a call-up or a chance in the summer league. In such a point guard-heavy league, every team is looking for backcourt depth.
But here are a couple of teams that would be especially inclined to give Carr a shot:. Raymond Felton is a goner, Pablo Prigioni was entertaining two years ago but is essentially ineffective now and Toure' Murry is a wild card. Smith or Tim Hardaway Jr. Shaun Livingston may or may not be back, but regardless, the Nets need PG depth. Carr is young and freaky athletic, and veterans like Kevin Garnett , Joe Johnson and perhaps Paul Pierce would quickly let him know his role.
Brooklyn would be a great landing spot for the Crimestopper. Miami has a proclivity to take chances on guys— Chris Andersen , Norris Cole , Michael Beasley , Greg Oden —and more often than not, it works out well. Starting PG Mario Chalmers will be a free agent this summer, and Carr could become what Cole has been the past few years—a cheap, score-first backup who prospers in the second unit.
Could that change over the next few weeks? That's why Carr is such a wild card. The buzz around him has dialed down, but his game is improving. There is still a chance that commissioner Adam Silver calls his name on June Keep a close eye on Carr once the draft gets into the later picks, but be mindful that his NBA hopes don't end on June Despite the odds stacked against him, count on Carr—whose heart and basketball prowess tower over his physical stature—to somehow, someway achieve his NBA dreams in the coming years.
